Creating a Bespoke Soft & Faded SMP Style
The Clients Scalp Micropigmentation Brief:
- To create an SMP style that is undetectable.
- The top and into the native hair transition are the priority.
- Hairline is to stay conservative and very soft/faded.
- Camouflage skin imperfections.
Hairline Design:
- We used the muscle groupings on the forehead to create the clients natural receding shape and decided to keep and enhance the scar through the faded hairline to give us something a little bespoke.
- Side profiles were kept to a gentle fade and gradually lightened as the SMP transitions into the sparse native hair.
- Our 5 point hairline system was used to create symmetry.
The 1st SMP session:
- We used a shade 9 which is one of the lightest shades of pigment and a needle size of 08/3RL.
- The impressions were laid down in a lower density (spaced out loosely) to match the desired outcome and ease our client into the process.
- We avoided the darker freckles and skin defects on the skin to help camouflage them as we moved through the treatments.

The Clients 2nd SMP session:
- Our 2nd session was performed one month later due to logistics of travel as this treatment was carried out in the USA.
- The healing was very successful and gave us the light and tight impressions to lift the skin shade very subtlety.
- From here our client now had a little more confidence in what we were able to achieve.
- We proceeded with the 2nd session using a slightly darker shade of pigment (#8) This was applied as an overlay technique where we go over and next to the lighter healed impressions from session one throughout the top and as we approach the front hairline and transition areas on the side and back we gradually ease off on the pressure and density spacing between impressions.
- Again the darker freckles and skin defects were mostly avoided to help with camouflage.
- This 2nd session gives us an almost complete understanding of how the SMP is going to look into the future and we can expect a 20%-30% lightening of the impressions over the next 3-4 weeks.
The 3rd and final SMP session:
Our 3rd session took place 6 weeks after the 2nd session in the UK at our HQ clinic near London Gatwick.
- The healing from previous sessions was incredible, and a very subtle and soft SMP was evident.
- At this stage the client has had time to adjust more to his new look and has seen how it looks in multiple different lighting situations.
- On our 3rd session our client was ready to add another slightly darker layer to future proof the SMP throughout the top.
- We used a shade number 7 and with the same technique of creating small tight impressions we created a darker density throughout the top and gradually eased off and lightened our pressure towards the hairline and transitions into the sides and back.
The result is a totally undetectable and soft SMP transformation that will last for a good few years until a touch up is necessary. Working in this style enables us to minimise the amount of ink implanted into the skin.

As each shade gradually fades over time we can replace the darker shade in the same manner and never will this SMP be overloaded with ink.
