Scalp Micropigmentation for Thinning Hair

Thinning hair is a prevalent issue for both men and women, particularly those with longer hair. If you wish to maintain your hair’s length without resorting to a shaved or buzzed look, Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) offers a highly effective solution. By creating the illusion of density through the strategic application of micro-dots in and around existing hair, SMP can enhance the appearance of fullness.

Understanding Thinning Hair

Thinning hair can occur for a variety of reasons, including natural ageing, genetics, medical conditions, and certain hairstyling practices. Here’s a closer look at some common causes:

  • Natural Ageing: As we age, hair density naturally decreases, leading to a thinner appearance.
  • Genetics: A family history of thinning hair can significantly influence your hair’s thickness.
  • Medical Conditions: Issues such as thyroid disorders, nutritional deficiencies, and certain medications can cause thinning hair.
  • Hairstyling Practices: Regularly wearing tight hairstyles, like ponytails, can cause traction alopecia, a form of hair loss.
  • Stress and Hormonal Changes: High stress levels and hormonal fluctuations can impact hair health, contributing to thinning.

SMP Techniques for Thinning Hair

Density Enhancement

For those with thinning hair who wish to keep their hair long, density enhancement is an ideal SMP technique. This method involves adding pigmentation between existing hair strands to create the appearance of thicker hair. It’s particularly beneficial for clients looking to maintain their current length and style.

Full Scalp Coverage

Full scalp coverage is suitable for individuals experiencing extensive hair thinning. This technique creates the illusion of a completely shaven head with even hair distribution, ideal for those who prefer a low-maintenance, clean-cut look.

Customised Hairlines

SMP can also design customised hairlines that suit the individual’s facial structure and personal preferences. This is especially useful for those with receding or uneven hairlines due to thinning.

SMP Hairstyles for Thinning Hair

Scalp micropigmentation is highly effective in masking and hiding thinning hair. If you have bald patches or your hair is thinning throughout, these subtle scalp tattoos can fill in the gaps, making your hair appear thicker and fuller. The pigmentation can be precisely matched to your natural hair colour, ensuring a seamless blend that conceals any signs of hair loss. As your hair continues to thin, additional treatments can be scheduled to maintain the desired look.

Benefits of SMP for Thinning Hair

Non-Invasive Solution

SMP is a non-invasive procedure that doesn’t involve surgery, making it a safer and less painful option compared to other hair restoration methods.

Immediate Results

Unlike hair transplants, which can take months to show visible results, SMP provides an immediate improvement in the appearance of hair density.

Long-Lasting Effects

With proper care, the results of SMP can last for several years. Periodic touch-ups may be required to maintain the vibrancy of the pigmentation, but overall maintenance is minimal.

Natural Appearance

SMP is designed to look natural, even upon close inspection. The micro-dots replicate the appearance of hair follicles, blending seamlessly with your natural hair.

Considerations for Older Clients

For older clients with greying or white hair, it’s often advisable to maintain a darker hair colour to achieve the best results. Darker pigments can provide a more noticeable contrast against the scalp, enhancing the illusion of density.

Enhancing Confidence

Many people feel self-conscious about their thinning hair, regardless of the cause. SMP can significantly boost confidence by restoring the appearance of a fuller head of hair. With scalp micropigmentation, no one will be able to tell that you’re experiencing hair loss, allowing you to go about your daily life with renewed self-assurance.

This is dependent on the amount of hair loss. As a general rule, you will be looking at 3 or 4 sessions over a 6-8 week period. Each session can last 2-4 hours.

This is done according to skin tone and/or remaining hair colour. We have huge experience of a diverse range of clients from all cultures. 1st sessions usually start with a lighter shade and we gradually build up density and darkness as we progress to complete your treatment.

We can go through some pictures of hairlines and draw some hairlines on you. When choosing hairlines it is always best to play it safe, not going too low on the first visit. Then on the second visit you would have decided how low you want to go. We can also produce various hairline styles depending on what you like (ie jagged, soft, slightly receding, edged up, lines and designs) Creative Scalps have developed techniques and procedures to ensure your hairline will be in the correct place and suit you and your style. No not at all, as the depth of the needle is only into the upper dermis, if anything the treatment has been known to stimulate hair growth.

Results of completed treatments will last for years, depending on lifestyle and immune system. Many clients like to have a top-up session after 2 or 3 years just to keep their new style looking fresh.

TOP-UP  prices vary according to what is needed. Prices for an existing client can variety from £470 to £1000.

For best results you would need the treatment to dry heal for 4 days after each treatment. So this would mean avoiding sweat, water and any sorts of creams, lotions etc….
After this period you can slowly increase activity.

Everyone is different depending on skin types. Immediately after treatment our technician will clean your treatment and use an anti-redness topical anaesthetic so you will leave the clinic looking and feeling great. The redness may possibly be with you for a day or two typically.

The treatment is perfectly safe, we use sterile equipment and brand new packaged needles for every procedure. We take health & safety very seriously and are fully insured and regulated.

No, as we only use a carbon based black pigment which is diluted to match your skin tone.

Yes, direction of hair growth is always taken into consideration for the most realistic results.

The honest answer is yes you are going to feel discomfort as with any tattoo procedure. We advise clients to have eaten well and be in good health on the day of treatment. Our pre-treatment advice also includes moisturising the scalp twice daily in the days/weeks leading up to your procedure. This will help soften the skin. The elation you will feel after solving your hairloss issues will far outweigh any discomfort from treatment.

We can work it around your work or social life no problem, weekends late nights early mornings are all ok. Creative Scalps has one of the worlds most skilled and experienced technicians so we do sometimes have waiting lists of 4-6 weeks.
